  • MBA Sport to Receive New Offices in Schmidt Family Academic and Athletic Center

    In its continued pursuit of excellence, Florida Atlantic University will build a premier facility at the heart of its Boca Raton campus. The facility has received initial funding of $16 million from the Schmidt Family Foundation, the largest single gift in FAU’s history. The Schmidt Family Foundation’s generosity will help create a national model of academic excellence. The Complex will be constructed adjacent to FAU Stadium and the FAU MBA – Sport Management program will be will be calling the Schmidt Family Academic and Athletic Center “home”. The program will receive offices, conference rooms and academic space in the new building.

The funds will be used on four signature public programs that span three colleges at FAU.

    South Florida led the nation for home price gains again in September as the only metropolitan area where double-digit increases persisted among a widespread market slowdown, according to the nation’s leading price index. Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties saw home prices climb 10.3 percent in September compared to the same time last year as measured by the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller index released Tuesday.

    Here's the kind of data that makes retailers shudder: 40 percent of Hispanics said they will spend less on holiday shopping compared with last year, according to a survey released Monday. That compares with 29 percent who said they will spend more money and 31 percent who said they will spend the same as last year, the Florida Atlantic University Business and Economic Polling Initiative reported.

This study investigates the effects of the Bush tax cuts on U.S. investment using intervention analysis in conjunction with regression analysis that controls for relevant variables.

    Existing studies on bubbles have been mainly concerned with investigating the stationarity properties of stock prices and market fundamentals. We develop a new method of testing for bubbles that relates the bubble component of stock prices to the probability of bursting in the context of the Weibull distribution.

Goo (2014), Optimal Information Security Investment in a Healthcare Information Exchange: An Economic Analysis, Decision Support Systems, 61, 1-11. This study applies classical economic decision analysis techniques and models the Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) based on its network characteristics to offer key insights into the issue of determining the optimal level of information security investment. The complexity of the problem, the increasing security breaches, and the regulatory and financial consequences of breached patient data highlight the fact that security of electronic patient information in Healthcare Information Exchanges is an organizational imperative and a research priority.

    A new national poll by the Florida Atlantic University Business and Economic Polling Initiative (FAU BEPI) finds 50 percent of Hispanics said they will vote for a Democratic candidate in the midterms compared to 28 percent who said they would vote Republican. However, Hispanics are split at 40 percent in their approval/disapproval of U.S. President Barack Obama, according to the survey.
