of The Algonquin: An Interview with Manuela Rappenecker, General Manager, The Algonquin Hotel

    Manuela Rappenecker assumed her current post in June of 2014. Prior to this, she was General Manager at The Renaissance New York Hotel 57 from October 2012. She was an Adjunct Professor in the Hospitality School at Florida Atlantic University and she has held the role of Resident Manager at Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa and Director of Operations at Fort Lauderdale Marina Marriott. She was also Adjunct Professor in the Hospitality School at Johnson & Wales University and Executive Assistant Manager, Rooms Division at The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia. Earlier, she held various managerial positions at several Marriott properties. She received her Master of Business Administration Degree from Florida Atlantic University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing/Marketing Management from Florida State University-College of Business.

    In 2010, with the housing bust winding down, GL Homes had a decision to make on a 280-acre parcel it owned along Lyons Road west of Delray Beach. It could have built another 55-and-over community for active adults or more of a family-type development, but the Sunrise-based builder kept hearing from buyers of all ages that they wanted a country club setting without golf and its pricey fees and mandatory memberships. So GL delivered The Bridges, a 591-home luxury community minus the links, but otherwise packed with amenities. Analysts say it's a model that builders will copy in the coming years.

    South Florida led the nation for home price gains again in September as the only metropolitan area where double-digit increases persisted among a widespread market slowdown, according to the nation’s leading price index. Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties saw home prices climb 10.3 percent in September compared to the same time last year as measured by the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller index released Tuesday.
